'Be firm but fair to everybody' - says Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Manager

Community Safety and Transport Management, District Director in Dr Kenneth Kaunda, Mr Patrick Mohono has instructed law enforcement officers to stamp authority and leave no stone unturned in ensuring that all public transport vehicles operators are compliant.

Mohono was addressing traffic officers during the parade prior to the public transport special operation in Klerksdorp conducted by Provincial Traffic and Matlosana Traffic officers.

He said the increasing number of illegal public operators is a bleeding wound to legal taxis in this area.

"We need to ensure total compliance on our roads and safe the lives of our people. In this operation we must be firm but fair to everyone," said Mohono.

The District Director said they are busy engaging relevant shakeholders to resolve public transport challenges in klerksdorp specifically in the Alabama area where illegal operation is rife.

The team was strengthened with officers from Potchestroom and Ventersdorp traffic stations to ensure the success of the operation.

Matlosana is one of the areas in the Province where public transport has a number of challenges with violence that led to deaths in some instances.
